Children and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD) should ensure an adequate intake of vitamins
and minerals. It is not clear if ADHD causes deficiencies in
certain vitamins, minerals, essential fates, and amino
acids, or if the deficiencies cause the ADHD. What is clear,
though, is that taking ADHD vitamins does improve ADHD
symptoms.
Those with ADHD are often deficient in DHA, an essential
fat required for proper brain function. They are also often
deficient in zinc. Good ADHD vitamins with omega-3 fish oils
will take care of these issues. Even low dose vitamins have
been shown to improve concentration, as well as academic and
work performance. High-quality ADHD vitamins will show even
more improvement.
Organic whole foods are highly recommended for ADHD
children and adults. Chemical pesticides and preservatives
may not cause ADHD, but they can certainly make the symptoms
worse. One idea to influence children to eat more organic
whole foods is to create a container garden to grow your own
vegetables. Quality organic protein is also indicated for
most people diagnosed with ADHD. Supplemented with ADHD
vitamins, this diet will help symptoms consistently improve.
If the person diagnosed with ADHD has been on antibiotics
for a long period of time, or many times over a fairly short
period, a yeast overgrowth can occur, which will contribute
to worsening symptoms. A probiotic supplement or acidophilus
milk, or yogurt (without sugar or red food coloring) can
help. If a yeast overgrowth is suspected, read all
supplement labels to ensure that they do not have yeast as
an ingredient, even the labels of the ADHD vitamins.
If food allergies are suspected, eliminate foods with
food additives, preservatives, artificial coloring, and
artificial flavorings. Rather than seem to punish a child by
taking these things away from him or her, make the change
for the entire family. You will all benefit from a more
healthy diet. Again, be sure ADHD vitamins are added to the
ADHD persons routine, especially when changing diets or
eliminating foods to determine allergies. For health's sake,
it is important to provide additional nutritional support at
this time.
Recent research found that children, and by extrapolation
adults, who have ADHD are more likely to have inflammation
of the gastrointestinal tract. This can cause an increase in
gut permeability, which is a leading cause of food
allergies. All natural ADHD vitamins and supplements will
help improve gastrointestinal inflammation. Essential fats
found in omega-3 fish oil, evening primrose oil and flax
seed oil all help soothe and heal the inflammation. These
are often found in ADHD vitamins.
When purchasing ADHD vitamins, make sure the vitamins
contain the B-vitamins, vitamin C, Zinc, Magnesium, omega-3
oil or primrose oil, and omega-6 oil. While vitamins will
not cure ADHD, they can drastically improve symptoms, making
it easier for a child to sit through school classes or an
adult to attend a business meeting. Following a sensible
diet and taking a quality vitamin designed for ADHD children
and adults will help improve your life.
